Jordan Handicap Accessible Bathroom Project
I just wanted to give everyone a brief update on the progress of our handicapped accessible bathroom. It appears at the time of this writing (7-18-19) that the project should be completed within the next 3 weeks. The flooring is here and will be installed very soon. This will be followed by Erickson Plumbing installing the water heater and bathroom fixtures. Once Erickson has completed their work, Zweifel Construction will finish up by installing the doors and trim. My compliments to everyone that worked on this bathroom. When one drives up to the front of the Church, it really looks like the new addition belongs there. In fact, it appears as though it may have always been a part of the structure. There will be some landscaping to finish yet. The timing of that depends on when our dry dirt arrives.
I want to express my extreme appreciation for everyone that not only very generously donated time and dollars to this project, but also to each and every one of you that endorsed it. While I am ecstatic that this bathroom has became reality, I’m a bit embarrassed that it took our congregation so long to recognize the needs of our handicapped and elderly members, as well as prospective members. To those of you that have needed this facility, please accept my apology for not pursuing the matter long ago.
In closing, I want to remind ourselves as a congregation to be mindful to the needs of others. This congregation has been a part of the community since 1859. I want to say that with our Church being the oldest church in the state still holding regular Sunday worship services, it speaks well of the Jordan community. A person recently told me that if we take care of our families as well as we have the Church, we will be able to rest in peace. That is very sage advice. This not only means our immediate family, but our church and community families as well.
Thank you all and may God bless you!
Our Harvest Picnic will be held this year at Jordan on August 18th. We will begin at 9:30 AM with a joint outdoor worship service. (weather permitting). Our Harvest Picnic Committee has chosen The Green County Care Net Pregnancy Center and the Jordan Lutheran Church handicapped accessible bathroom project to be co equal recipients of all funds received for the Harvest Picnic. We will plan to have a brief dedication ceremony for the handicap accessible bathroom immediately following our worship service. We will begin serving the meal by 11 AM and continue until 1 PM. Cost of the meal is a free will offering.
Our live auction is scheduled to begin at 1PM. We have already been gifted a quilt crafted by the talented hands of our Jordan lady quilters, and also a cedar wood Aldo Leopold bench, crafted by a professional builder/ woodworker of our congregation. Don’t miss your opportunity to own one of these wonderful items! We need your generous donation of items and baked goods for the auction! Speaking of baked goods, the traveling Golden Rolling Pin award will be up for grabs to the lady (or gentleman) that makes this year’s high dollar selling pie. Her (or his) name will be inscribed on the rear of the trophy. Last year’s winner was Jordan’s very own Beverly Hartwig. The purchaser of that outstanding pie was the very generous Jordan member, Duane Foley. Thanks to both of you for helping to make our auction a huge success!
Please plan to not only attend, but volunteer some of your time as well. Also, please bring auction items. Invite your friends, relatives and neighbors to join us for a great time and help support worthwhile causes. Questions and donations can be directed/given to Harvest Picnic co chair persons LaVerne and Margaret Gordee, Jeff and Amy Ballard, Lauren and Lois Meinert, or Dave and Kay Johnson.
Thanks and God Bless!
Thanks goes to all who have donated food items to the Food Pantry so far this year. Food Pantry Sundays for the summer months will be as follows: August 11. Please help our community by providing food and personal care items to the food pantry. There is a list on the windows in the entry way and items can be placed on or below the shelf there. In May, Our Savior's volunteers helped 17 families and 30 people with items from the pantry. Our Savior's is responsible for working the pantry in August. If you are interested in helping please contact Carol at 608-482-3708.
