Service Project Opportunity/Needs
If your small group, ladies group, or youth group is looking for a service project, the Pregnancy Center would appreciate a Diaper Drive. We are currently in need sizes 4, 5, and 6 diapers, as well as, size 4T-5T pull-ups.
In addition, we need sizes 2T, 3T, and 4T winter outfits for boys, especially pants. We are also running low on 4T winter outfits for girls.
All Saints Day Service
There will be a special joint candlelight remembrance service for All Saints Day. It will be held Sunday, November 3rd at Our Savior’s, at 10:30am. No Service at Jordan on November 3rd.
The purpose of this service is to remember church family members who have died during the past year. Family members will be asked to come forward when their loved ones name is read, to light a candle and receive a flower. During the candlelight service everyone attending will light a candle in remembrance of someone dear to them, as names are read. In doing this we are affirming our faith in the resurrection of Jesus Christ, and that by his power the fellowship of the church is not limited by death. Please plan to attends this special service and join us for a potluck dinner following the service. Please bring a dish to share.
Clothes of Compassion
The committee for Clothes for Compassion would like to “Thank” everyone who donated clothes. The response has been wonderful. They have received so much clothes they are running out of space. Until further notice, they are asking for only clothes that will fit children in 4 kindergarten through High School.
News from the Food Pantry
The need in our community for help with groceries seems to be growing. In August we served 21 families with a total of 57 family members. We have been fortunate this summer to have received several meat donations: a steer, hog and several chickens. We were able to share this meat over and above the amount we usually give to the 21 families. The chickens are gone, but we still have pork and beef to share.
Food Pantry Sunday for the next four months will be: Nov. 17 and Dec.8. The earlier date in December will enable us to include your donations in the Christmas boxes we make up for the holidays. Last year we had 45 families who received boxes. Please check the list in the Narthex to see what items are needed for the food pantry. Make shopping a family affair with each member choosing something to bring on Food Pantry Sunday. Thank you to everyone who supports this ministry with prayers and donations.
Mercy Mat Update
It is time to bring out the crochet hooks and plarn balls! Mercy Mat meetings will begin Wednesday, Sept. 11 and continue throughout the fall, winter and spring on Wednesday mornings. We meet at Our Savior's from 9-12 and welcome new members to our group. You don't need any experience to join the group, just a pair of scissors and a willingness to learn the steps in making the mats. Please join us if you have the time and interest. If you can't join us please donate clean, used plastic grocery bags to our effort and keep us in your prayers. We take finished mats to either Porchlight or The Beacon homeless shelters where they are given to homeless people to use as sleeping mats or blankets. There is always a need for the mats.
After School Program Update
The After School Program committee is making plans for the food stand at the car show
during Homecoming October 12. Last year was our first time doing this as a fund raiser and it was a learning experience as well as a huge success! We are increasing the amount of food we buy as we sold out of most everything by 12:30 last year. Andy Hill has applied for and received a grant from Thrivent to use for buying soda, water, and other necessities. If you would like to volunteer at this fund raiser, please call Carol at 482-3708.
Please keep the After School Program in your prayers as we are still looking for a teacher. If you know of someone who might be interested, have them call the number above and leave a message. There is a real need for this program in our community. Please help in any way you can. Thank you.
